Let me introduce myself: I'm Laura Scales, the founder and chief coffee enthusiast behind Athena Coffee Roasters LLC. But before we dive into the world of specialty coffee, let me share a little bit about the journey that brought us here.

In the midst of a global pandemic back in 2020, while navigating the joys and challenges of staying home with my young kids, I decided to journey into a new adventure: starting Athena Coffee Roasters. Armed with nothing but determination and a humble garage, I taught myself the art of coffee roasting, one batch at a time, often burning the midnight oil after the little ones were fast asleep.

What began as a passion project soon blossomed into something more. I started by sharing my freshly roasted beans at local farmers markets in June 2020 in the greater Memphis, TN area, and before I knew it, coffee lovers were lining up for a taste of Athena's brew.

In 2022, as Athena Coffee Roasters continued to grow, I expanded into locally owned stores throughout Tennessee and Mississippi, spreading the love of specialty coffee one bag at a time. But our journey didn't stop there.

In 2023, my family and I embarked on a new chapter, relocating to the vibrant community of the greater St. Louis, MO area. And with our move came an exciting opportunity to continue sharing my passion for coffee with a whole new audience.

Inspired by the powerful tales of Greek goddesses, we aim to reclaim and celebrate the stories of women from all corners of the globe. That's why we prioritize sourcing beans from women producers, ensuring that every cup we brew supports and empowers women in coffee.
